2014 MacPhail Rosé of Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

Winemaker James MacPhail is a certifiable Pinot nut. He makes a dozen different lots of Pinot Noir and more every vintage. Even so, he has a soft spot for well-crafted rosé, especially when made from the Pinot Noir grape. Drawing from the many vineyard sources he has, each Spring he bottles a bone-dry version of Rosé of Pinot Noir.
The color is a brilliant neon orange/coral. In the nose, there is a fattiness, a creaminess, that frames crisper fruit impressions. Though fully dry, there is a plump mouth texture, with a juicy acidity that invites the next sip. Flavors of strawberry compote emerge with time. As we enter the Spring months, and through to the Fall, warmer temperatures and lighter fare scream for a bottle of rosé to pair at a brunch, a picnic lunch, or at the dinner table. This one is versatile, matching well with light fruit salads all the way to roasted chicken and broiled salmon.
