2009 Buty ‘Rediviva of the Stones,’ Walla Walla Valley, Washington

This blend of 77% Syrah and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon is nearly opaque dark crimson/purple in color. Initial wood aromas of finely ground black pepper, toast and vanilla lead to polished huckleberry and blackberry syrup fruit. Lush and mouth-coating, the wine picks up black licorice at mid-palate. The finish echoes the sweet blackberries and cream. Sporting impeccable balance and well-integrated tannins, this suave red should age well for at least a decade. At this stage of its development, the wine would pair well with lightly gamey red meat such as venison or kangaroo, especially with a reduced berry sauce.
