2010 Macari Vineyards Rosé, North Fork of Long Island

Imagine a classic red Bordeaux blend, only made in a rosé style. Imagine no longer. A solid base of Merlot is joined by a healthy dollop of Cabernet Franc and smaller portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec — only instead of deep purple/red in hue, this wine is salmon-colored. A “big” rosé, it’s quite refreshing and serves up plenty of cherry and blackberry flavor, joined by hints of watermelon and strawberry. A wonderful summer sipper — ideal with barbecued fare, or for a more gourmet experience, try it with house-made pasta with venison ragout. Quite possibly the best wine value on Long Island.
MSRP: $15 (March 2013)
