2009 Bella ‘Big River Ranch’ Zinfandel, Alexander Valley
Opaque purple-plum color, lightly staining the glass. This brawny wine already is throwing significant sediment. A note of funk leads to high-toned cedar, spice, minerals and fleshy dark fruit. Syrupy dark cherry comes forward in the mouth, followed by earthy tannins at the finish. Given the amount of sediment in the bottle, it will be interesting to see how this wine evolves.
