Not your everyday sparkling wine – and that’s not a bad thing, either. Franz Strohmeier is clearly an artisan producer; just check out some of his bottlings, all of which are driven by the terroir of Western Austria.
Off-beige pour (What the heck is “off-beige,” you ask? Somewhere between pale orange, khaki and pinkish cream) and quickly dissipating bubbles with a nose of cotton, fresh pound cake and a touch of yeastiness. In the mouth, ample acidity and vegetables instead of fruit: roasted eggplant and citrus-kissed celeriac. Surprising, delightful and bound to impress even the snobbiest of biodynamic-natural wine hipsters.
