2010 Alamosa Wine Cellars ‘Texacaia,’ Texas Hill Country

Here’s a European-style wine that would pair nicely with barbecued fare. The blend consists of Sangiovese (whose historic home is Italy), Tannat (a variety that’s taking Uruguay by storm) and Petit Verdot (a blending grape of Bordeaux), and while the finish is just a tad warm, the smoke, cherry and raspberry jam impressions are easy to like.
Tasting Room price: $16 (May 2012)
Wine Lines rating: 87
