2009 J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, St. Helena, Napa Valley
Glass-staining purple-black color. The nose unfolds to show dark flowers, concentrated black cherry, dark plum and currant fruit, which are complemented by additional layers of espresso, polished leather, vanilla and toast. In the mouth, the wine is full and velvety, showing plump, sweet dark fruits. This red would be a perfect pairing for classic herbed rack of lamb. (An added bit of karma is that $2 from the sale of each bottle goes to the national Breast Cancer Foundation, in honor of Jerry Lohr’s wife.)
