Very little noticeable alcohol and fine-grained tannins make this wine easy to drink over the course of a long meal. Plum-ish strawberry-tinged fruit amid a distant backdrop of earthy mushrooms and deeply browned caramel makes for an adaptable and versatile beverage. Still, there is nothing here that is revelatory or different, and refined palates might be tempted to say something is missing. There are good grapes here, but perhaps this bottling from winemaker Fabien Jouves, priced barely above entry-level, does not allow for such triumphant grandstanding.
