2011 Palamà ‘Arcangelo’ Negroamaro I.G.T., Puglia, Italy

100 percent Negroamaro wine is hardly ever available this young, but this mono-varietal release from Nini Palama is a vibrant, expressive bargain that pumps out lush, glycerine flavors. Indeed, one might say it’s a pity only 3500 cases were produced, because this is a wine that speaks to the very humble and honest demands of a Sunday dinner table. Joined by friends, roast chicken and fresh vegetables tossed with olive oil, black pepper and ricotta, you might savor the Arcangelo’s in-glass evolution, as it takes on smokier, woodsier notes over the course of two hours to complement already prominent fruit. Fine tannins and a mouth-coating texture, combined with low alcohol, make this wine superbly drinkable at all hours of the day.
