2009 Mapema Malbec, Argentina

Do you have a friend who refuses to drink anything but Bordeaux? You could fool them with this Malbec, made from fruit grown at the 3,200-foot level. The wine has a lot going on, with notes of polished shoe leather, sweet red berry fruit, a hint of mint, a wisp of desert sage and currant. The moderate furry tannins make this an ageworthy wine, but don’t detract from immediate enjoyment, especially after a splash decanting. Try it with duck or venison in a cherry or ligonberry sauce.
