2009 Kenwood Vineyards Zinfandel, Sonoma County

Translucent dark ruby color. At first sniff, lightly briary blackberry and raspberry fruit aromas pick up pectin and black pepper shadings. On the palate, the wine seems lighter than its stated 14.5% alcohol. Some spice, black licorice and earth appear at the finish. A solid, affordable red that’s perfect for summer barbecue. Value vino.
MSRP: $14 (April 2012)
Wine Lines rating: 88
