2009 Glen Carlou ‘Grand Classique,’ Paarl, South Africa

This Meritage-style red uses all five Bordeaux varietals. Smoky oak, tobacco and menthol/mint aromas mix with dusty cherry, black currant and other dark fruits. Once in the mouth, the wine picks up some licorice root flavors. A clean and balanced wine, with furry tannins, this is an eminently drinkable red that’s ready to quaff now.
MSRP: $19.99 (March 2012)
Wine Lines rating: 88
