1995 Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan, France

A dark ruby color with highlights of orange bricking just starting. Decanted for an hour, it still seemed closed in and monolithic, with ample cassis and sour cherry fruit framed by leather. But it brightened up with the crispy duck dish, and even paired well with fried sea bass served on top of drunken noodles.
